impact
my best approximation for the timeframe in which the following story took place would be my middle school years, so somewhere in the '91-'94 range. i was at my friend rob's house with my buddy steve, and we were being the jackasses that 11-14 year old boys tend to be. we got into a heated debate about music at one point when rob asserted that music didn't have the capacity to elicit emotion. steve and i spent the first few seconds trying to figure out how it could be a joke (what the angle could be), but then we realized he was serious.
five months
yeah, it's probably time for one of those drawn out rationalizations as to why it's been almost five months since my last post. a lot has happened in the last five months, so i'll get right to it...
the company i've worked at for the better part of the last nine years was sold, and the entire IT department (which is me and two other techs) was part of the roughly 70-80 jobs that were identified as "areas of synergy and redundancy" and are getting laid off, or in the corporate-speak of the day, "right-sized". i was lucky enough to be identified as a transitional employee that was graciously offered "transition" employment for 6 months after the sale, and while there's some bitterness there, i actually am thankful to have a job even if it is just temporary. on that front, i have some applications out and have had a few interviews. crossing my fingers for one position in particular that looks like it'd be a great "next step" from where i'm at now. at any rate, i have steady paychecks guaranteed (unless i leave early for another job) from my current employer until mid-august (counting the severance package if i stay until the end of my offer), so i feel like i still have time to find the right job - one that fits me and that i fit.
mystery guitar man
check out this guy's youtube channel. makes some fun videos that i have really enjoyed watching, combining music with computer nerdage and movie making:
Mystery Guitar Man
i have some photos i've taken over the last couple of months that i'll throw up here when i get some free time. went for a late ride last night and wound up on the bridge downtown taking some photos over the river. fun times - check back soon!
ow?
life goes on.
the older i get, the faster it goes. evenings vanish, weeks fly by, months are here and then not.. crazy.
so during the "good" weather months (read: not freezing cold) a few friends and i have an outdoor basketball group that gets together about once or twice a week in the evenings to play ball. there's only about 4-6 regulars that show up, but we usually grab a few random pickups and run 3s or 4s. last wednesday, i jammed my ring finger pretty good. on friday, i rejammed it along with my middle finger, and thought it was going to be a "bad" night for injuries based on that along, until i landed on a friend's foot and twisted my ankle all to pieces.
