life goes on.

the older i get, the faster it goes. evenings vanish, weeks fly by, months are here and then not.. crazy.

so during the “good” weather months (read: not freezing cold) a few friends and i have an outdoor basketball group that gets together about once or twice a week in the evenings to play ball. there’s only about 4-6 regulars that show up, but we usually grab a few random pickups and run 3s or 4s. last wednesday, i jammed my ring finger pretty good. on friday, i rejammed it along with my middle finger, and thought it was going to be a “bad” night for injuries based on that along, until i landed on a friend’s foot and twisted my ankle all to pieces.

i’ve reserved my tickets for the flight to japan. departing KCI to Chicago-O’Hare, then O’Hare to Osaka International. fourteen hour flight than starts at noon on one day and lands at 5pm the next day. figure that math out. =)

i applied for a part time position out at the place where dan works, though i don’t know if they’ll want to hire someone who is leaving in only two months. i don’t plan on volunteering the info that i’m leaving, but i won’t lie if they ask.

it has been a while
since last i wrote a haiku
you’re probably glad.

there’s much more to it
than the 5-7-5 thing.
believe me, there is.

i bet you’re thinking
“oh god, please make him stop it.”
i won’t stop writing.

i’m up on campus, studying for my western civ 2 midterm. not great fun, in my estimation, but it has to be done all the same. the major works we’ve read up to this point are:

descartesdiscourse on method
lockesecond treatise on government
voltairecandide
various french revolutionary documents (declaration of the rights of man (and women!), declaration of sentiments, etc)
various american revolutionary documents (u.s. constitution, declaration of independence, federalist papers, and some suffrage documents)
millon liberty

if i had to recommend them, i’d say the mill, descartes, and voltaire are all pretty interesting, the american revolutionary documents are a must read (in my opinion) for any american, the locke is important but a tough read, and the french.. well.. they’re french. just kidding! (but really, they are.. french that is) =)

three more hours of studying. better get back to the books. i just thought i’d drop in and bust out a couple of quick haiku for the reading public…

that silly descartes,
what the hell was he thinking?
i guess i should know.

anschutz smells funny.
i really hope its not me…
nope, it’s that fat guy.

that guy is real big.
i mean like ginormous big.
too much mcdonalds.

later kids. =)

sans class

ok, i dropped my shakespeare class today. i picked up a one credit hour online course through ku’s distance learning program and i’ll use it to finish out my degree. it sucks, too, because i was really enjoying shakespeare.. the time commitment was just too much. the class i picked up sounds interesting.. “reading nobel prize winners” – so it should also be good, just less work. plus, i get to do it at my own pace, which will be nice. i’m still debating whether or not to elect one of my remaining three classes as credit/no credit. i think i should, i just can’t decide which one.

i have to admit i still miss the layout of my last blog.. unfortunately, the amount of time it took me to customize it and the amount of work it would take to port it over to the new version put it a little out of bounds for right now.

i watched the hawks play last night.. well.. if you call it ‘play’, that is. it was pretty painful. we’ve just been in a dry streak for a while and i think all of lawrence is ready for it to rain. i’ve got about half an hour to read the constitution for western civ, so i better get crackin’. now i’ll slam some wicked haiku on ya. ;)

i dropped my hard class
now i’m staring at cute girls
in the library.

exhausted, confused
but happy about my life
it’s just beginning.

semester is done,
it feels realy *bleepin* good
having free time now.

oh philosophy,
i came, i saw, i conquered
without reading it.

a stroke of genius-
to call the game we play “wow”
oddly, a great name.

so next semester:
two film classes and shakespeare
oh yeah – western civ.

next month will be fun-
getting a new boss at work,
i’ll cross my fingers…
