flat
Oct/080
it stands to reason, of course, that the first day in probably a year that i forgot my cell phone at home – i get a flat tire about a mile away from my house. this i decree now: never again will i be caught owning a car with nothing more than a factory fold-up jack in the trunk. that was brutal. my back hurts and my hands are killing me. i got the donut put on and hobbled it over the meineke across the street, where they informed me that while they did sell tires, they were overpriced and i could save a lot of money by going down the street a block or so to the firestone dealership. kudos, meineke guy.
so down to the firestone dealership i went, where i sit now, waiting for my front tires to be replaced (one was flat, but both of them were sorely lacking in the tread department, so i just had them both done. luckily, there was an unsecured wireless network so i VPN’d into work and got some work done. looks like the start of a glorious day!
oh yeah, don’t forget to watch the VP debate tonight!
politik?
Sep/080
so, anyone who read my blog four years ago might be wondering who exactly kidnapped the radically liberal dave and replaced him with someone who really hasn’t made so much of a political peep this election season.
elect
Apr/050
so its election day in lawrence, ks. city commissioners, some school bond issues, growth policy, affordable housing, usage of roundabouts in traffic management, and the big one – the marriage ammendment. its a pretty sad time in america right now when it seems like we’re doing everything we can to assist the government in taking away our rights. sure, the government can say we can’t do this or that, and as long as we agree the government will continue. the sad part is what we’ve been agreeing to lately. i can’t even believe that this is an issue, to be honest. its simply a way for some people (the majority) to say “you can’t be in the same club as us” to some other people (the minority). it has practically no bearing whatsoever on the straight community whether or not two gay people living together have the same recognition in the eyes of the law that they do in each other’s eyes.
one of the driving factors in me itchin’ to “get outta dodge” so bad is the political climate. while only 62% of the state voted for bush, the overwhelming conservatism is something i’m really not that comfortable with. its probably just the fact that our founding fathers would be turning over in their graves if they had any idea what was going on these days. i’ll grant that we can’t just sit here and do nothing with the way the world views us – but we should focus more on conducting ourselves in a way that will stop generating so much hate and anti-US sentiment rather than figuring out ways to combat it on our soil once its already here – usually at the cost of the population’s civil liberties.
well, i’m off to vote.
the vote
Nov/040
so i filed into the first presbyterian church today at about 12:30, stood in line for about 2 minutes, then cast my vote. now i’m up on campus doing some eReserve reading for my metaphysics class – “possible worlds” by david lewis. while not the lewis text, here is a quick explanation of possible world theory.
the lady at the voting center wanted me to take my hat off, so that she could make sure it was me. i almost didn’t have the required documentation due to the fact that i’m lazy and had JUST renewed my license before i moved last summer, and don’t have any picture ID with my current address. luckily, my KU ID sufficed.
well, off to class.
