it’s funny what prompts me to come and write, but in this case it was bad news. one of our company network fileservers (the one that happens to host my outlook PST data file that stores all my email, contacts, appointments, reminders, etc) went crazy, and i lost everything. a few other people lost about a month’s worth of email, but it appears to have hit me harder than anyone else. i’ve been back at the company for about 10 months, and i’m an information packrat – i never delete anything. sucked when they told me my PST had been corrupted in the crash and i’ve lost everything. oh well, no point in crying over spilt milk, right? ;) so 2 hours later i’ve mostly recreated my folder system and have about half of my rules set up. still haven’t grabbed a contact list from anyone.

that’s the kind of exciting news that you all were chomping at the bit to read, eh? i had a great christmas, got to spend a lot of time with my brother and saw the rest of the family as well. i hope everyone out there had a safe and fun holiday. don’t do anything i wouldn’t do for new years, but if you do, at least send me pictures!

merry christmas, everyone!

so, this has been a fairly exciting couple of days as far as the job goes. a coworker/friend has been working on some projects outside of work hours that’s right along the lines of what i spend most of my time at the office doing: process improvement. he pitched an idea to me that i absolutely love, and so we’re fairly sure we’re going to be switching from our current setup to one that is much simpler (and better). it’ll take quite a bit of work to migrate everything over to a new system (still preserving all of our old data), but it’ll be easily worth it in the end. today, i was informed that they’re giving me space on my company’s new $4m blade server to use for the next evolution of our in-house systems. very exciting news for the geek in me. =)

so, i’m on a road trip with my family down in texas right now (and for most of the week). we got in the car early saturday morning with only a loose idea that we’d head towards houston, since my mom had (at age 53) never seen the ocean.

it’s weird what you think about when you actually have the time. my lappy is sitting here on my desk running a slideshow of all the pictures i’ve taken in the past few years. it’s nuts how a picture can bring back memories. i can honestly say that i’m satisfied with the life i’ve led since it’s been mine to control. i figure that makes me lucky enough, hehe. sure, i’ve made some mistakes – but i feel like i’ve grown from them and am probably a better person now for it.

so, this weekend is scotia’s annual historical festival, which is code talk for an excuse for people to walk around in the street drunk. it also serves as the communities unofficial annual high school reunion, where people gather at the street dance to catch up on the goings-on and gossip of the old cliques.

well, that being said, i’m heading down after work tonight. gonna hang out with the boys, hopefully see some old friends, and spend some time with the fam. drop me an email if you want to meet up! =)
